A mother and her daughter were killed and at least 20 others injured as a passenger bus plunged into a roadside ditch at Sonar Bangla area on Barguna-Betagi regional highway in Barguna on Thursday morning.

The identities of the deceased and injured could not be known immediately.

According to eyewitness, the Betagi-bound passenger bus of ‘Sattar Paribahan’ from Barguna fell into a roadside ditch around 11:00 am when its driver lost control over the wheel at the area, leaving the mother and her daughter dead on the spot and 20 others injured.

On information, members of fire service and police rescued the injured and brought to a local hospital.

Confirming the news, Md Kamruzzaman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Betagi Police Station, said that driver and helper of the vehicle fled the scene immediately after the accident.

The OC also said police are trying to arrest the driver and helper in this connection
